Asbestos Surveyors

Under the Control of Asbestos regulations, it is a requirement that asbestos surveys should only be conducted by a competent person.

The definition of a competent person is somebody who has a relevant qualification in relation to asbestos surveying, the most common being a P402 qualification from BOHS (British Occupational Health Society).

All of our asbestos surveyors hold the P402 qualification as a minimum and our clients also have the added assurance that we are also part of a firm of chartered building surveyors specialising in commercial property issues.

Our knowledge of asbestos and commercial property is theerfore superior to many competitors, some of whjom have little experience of building surveying, other than the training they received during their P402 training – which many clients would be very surprised, if not alarmed to lear, takes only two days!

Our asbestos surveys are always conducted by at least two (and often three) qualified asbestos surveyors. We look in places that some asbestos surveyors wouldn’t even attempt to and we dig deeper – even on management asbestos surveys.

Here’s what typically happens on site.

One asbestos surveyor will conduct the initial survey, photographing and recording potential asbestos containing materials. At the same time, the other asbestos surveyor will be measuring and drawing a floor-plan of the building which will later be used to create a CAD plan of the premises.

All of the photographs will be referenced on the CAD plan for inclusion in the asbestos register.

Samples of materials are taken by the lead asbestos surveyor, with great care taken not to damage surfaces and of course, to avoid possible contamination of areas.

In short, we take a professional approach to ensure that you receive a meaningful asbestos register that performs it’s function – to protect your personnel, visitors and contractors whilst working on or in your premises.
