Back in the 1950′s and 190′s asbestos was widely promoted for use in buildings in many countries.

Needless to say, if something can be found, it can probably be found on YouTube, so here are a few original promotional videos for asbestos from those times.

Thanks to all of the contributors for posting these, they are an important reminder as to how stupid governments can be when an industry lobbies hard enough. Remember, the dangers of asbestos were first spotted in 1899.

It’s interesting to see, from these short videos, how asbestos became such a widely used product.

Notice in this video, that the narrator says that workers are protected – yet they don’t even wear masks. All they seem to have is a hard hat and a light.

During our surveys, we have found many examples of roof felt containing asbestos. Many people don’t even realise that asbestos was used in this type of produc. The same is true of floor coverings and tiles.
